"The Trail of the Samba"

As sport lovers and fans of outdoor sports in particular – we’re spoilt for choice in this part of France – we wanted to forge a link between festivity and sport so we’ve organised a footrace and a hike. This not only has its sporting side but is also a great way of sharing convivial moments and getting a different view of the Magnoac.

"Magnoac Rando", a local association, will be closely involved as co-organisers of the project and optimise organisation of the footrace.

"Magnoac Rando" launched the "Trail du Magnoac" in 2010 (in 2015 and 2016 this became a ‘night trail’) and the 2016 edition will take place at Castelnau-Magnoac on Saturday 17 September 2016.

The Trail of the Samba Run

There are two trails of different lengths: a 14 km trail for highly motivated runners and an 8km trail for the less energetic.

We’ve planned a long trail for fans of uphill and downhill running in woodland areas. And there’s a fairly short trail for anyone who wants to join in the festivities on Saturday evening and enjoy a morning race the next day.

Some of the participants are bound to show competitive spirit while others will be more relaxed about the race and see it as a friendly way of working off the effects of the night before – it’s sure to please everyone!

Hikers are also invited to enjoy the countryside on an 8 km hike (on the same trail as the short race).

Ninety per cent of each trail is on country paths.

The 8 km race and the 8 km hike follow the same route:

The first section runs along the crest of a hill with a spectacular view of the Pyrenees.

The second section follows the Cier (a little local river) and then runs along woods and fields before joining up with the 14 km trail.

The trail takes runners past the Festival campsite and into the village, finishing up at the "Grande Scène".

The route of the 14 km race :

Like the 8 km race and the hike the first section of the race runs along the crest of a hill with a spectacular view of the Pyrenees.

The second section leads up to another hill and then into the Monléon woods.

After leaving the woods the trail runs steeply uphill and on to the road.

It then follows the edge of the woods downhill and then back uphill to a high point with a spectacular view of the village.

The trail takes runners past the Festival campsite and into the village, finishing up at the "Grande Scène".

Prices :

The race and the hike are free for bearers of a Festival ticket.

Without a festival ticket the on-the-spot charge for the 14 km race is €10.

Without a festival ticket the on-the-spot charge for the 8 km race is €8.

Without a festival ticket, the on-the-spot charge for the hike is €6

All participants must fill in a Registration Form (to download, see below).

A doctor’s certificate that is less than 12 months old must be presented by all unlicensed participants. It must be worded “ non-contre indication à la pratique de la course à pied pour les non-licenciés”[i.e. attesting the ability of the participant to take part in a footrace]. This document is obligatory.

Race bibs can be picked up from 9am at the "Grande Scène".

Races start on "Place du Chateau". The finish is at the "Grande Scène":

- 10am: start of the 14 km race and the hike on "Place du Château"

- 10.30am: start of the 8 km race on "Place du Château"

Each race has two food-and-drink stops.

All road intersections will be secured and announced by Festival volunteers.

Three Brazilian percussion groups will provide musical accompaniment along the trail – a great way of mixing sporting activity with music and dance.

Shower facilities are available after the race (at the campsite or the "Grande Scène").

Massage treatment will be offered at the end of the race.

Awards will be presented at 12 noon at the "Grande Scène" : e.g. a restaurant meal, Festival t- shirts, soaps, soft drinks ...
